Vaginal Infections

Vaginitis is an irritation or inflammation of the vagina that can result in discharge, irritation, itching and/or pain. This can be caused by changes in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria or from an infection. The most common types of vaginitis include: bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and trichomoniasis. Symptoms can also be due to sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, or herpes. Evaluation of these symptoms is important, so that the correct diagnosis and treatment can be provided. Screening for these types of infections may include a physical exam, vaginal culture or lab work. You will be promptly informed of your test results and the appropriate treatment.
